Museums & Galleries

Singapore may be a small island but there is no shortage of wonderful cultural experiences available. The museums depict the rich cultural heritage of this proud nation. Art galleries and and constantly changing exhibitions ensure that there always new and stimulating experiences for all to enjoy.

The ACM is located by the Singapore River and is devoted to preserving the cultural heritage of Asia and in particular Singapore, Southeast Asia, China, India and the Islamic world. 

It features collections and interactive displays from these areas. The museum strives to promote the rich history that makes Singapore a multi cultural and multi ethnic society. 
The museum covers 14,000 sqm of floor area which includes 2,800 sqm of gallery space. The museum is accessible to the disabled and families with strollers.

In April 2008 the Peranakan Museum was opened and is managed and operated by the Asian Civilizations Museum. 



The Artscience Museum is located at Marina Bay Sands. It is a beautiful and iconic structure inspired by the lotus flower. This multi gallery museum covers 50, 000 square feet of of exhibition space.

This museum explores what drives creative people and shares their creativity in its many galleries. Ever changing exhibits and new programs ensure that it is always an exciting place to visit. It regularly  features major international touring exhibitions such as:
  •  Harry Potter: The Exhibition
  • 50 Greatest Photographs of National Geographic
  • Dali: Mind of a Genius
  • Titanic: The Artifact Exhibition
  • Andy Warhol: 15 Minutes Eternal
The museum is accessible to the disabled and families with strollers.


Located in three restored shop houses the museum allows visitors a peek into the life and experiences of early Chinese migrants in Singapore. 

Artifacts and pictures depict how these migrants lived in crammed cubicles and eked out a living in a new country. It shows the early days of Singapore as a budding port with its seedy gambling dens, secret societies and temptations like opium smoking and prostitution. Singapore has truly come a long way from those early days!

Character Guided and multimedia guided tours of the museum are available. Walking tours of Chinatown, offered by The Original Singapore Walks, depart from the CHC. These walking tours give visitors an in depth experience of the culture, history and traditions of Chinatown.
 

Indian Heritage Centre (IHC)


The IHC focuses on the heritage of the Indian community and its diversity. The building located in the heart of Little India, has permanent galleries as well as an exhibition center. 


The galleries show the historical links between the Indian sub-continent and Southeast Asia, in particular Singapore.



Malay Heritage Centre (MHC)


The MHC shows the history, culture and contributions of the Malay community in Singapore and its multi-cultural society. 


The permanent galleries are home to interesting artifacts that show Kampong Gelam's history and its connections to the region.



National Museum of Singapore


The national Museum of Singapore is the nation's oldest museum dating back to 1887. The museum redefines the conventional museum experience with cutting edge ways of presenting history and culture.


Innovative festivals, events, film screenings and performances are hosted all year round, making it a fun experience for the whole family. The facilities include a Resource Center, retail and Food & Beverage outlets.


Free guided tours of the Singapore History Gallery are presented in English, Mandarin and Japanese.
