Orchard Road also offers some high end shopping centers like Paragon Mall and  Ngee Ann City, and ION Orchard. ION Orchard is the largest mall on Orchard Road. It is a large multi level shopping mall with approximately 400 stores and services and more than 940,00 square feet of retail space and multiple dining options.

Electronics & Appliances

You may find that you will need to buy all new electronics and appliances when you arrive in Singapore!

The perfect time to buy that big screen TV you have been holding out for! In Singapore the standard voltage is 230V and the standard frequency is 50Hz. Small, less frequently appliances like mixers or food processors will probably be OK to use with a power converter but large appliances will have to be replaced.

There are a variety of options for appliance and electronics shopping. Of course online shopping is always an option but if you want to compare the quality of the picture on that new TV then brick and mortar stores are the way to go.

Furniture & Household Items

Many newcomers to Singapore are fortunate that their company will ship their household goods as part of the relocation package. For these people the biggest challenge may be to fit large size furniture into smaller living spaces!

Other companies may offer a dollar amount to set up your home. This offers a great opportunity for furniture shopping. Some people prefer cost effective furnishings especially if they know that their time in Singapore is for a limited period.

Groceries & Household Items

A trip to the grocery store can be both fun and frustrating. Fun because you are likely to encounter many unfamiliar items and frustrating because some labels are written only is Japanese, Chinese or Korean!

My advice is try new things, some you will love and others you may say never again but that is part of immersing yourself in a new culture! Another thing to get used to is the fact that  most of the stores are smaller and may have less of a variety than you may be used to.
